Lecture 1
What happened to Art Nouveau?  Again partly through British influence it metamorphosed into Art Deco - the style that defined the jazz era and the golden age of pre-war Hollywood musicals. 

Lecture 2
Art Deco pervaded all forms of design in a way that Art Nouveau never did, and in this talk we look at all aspects of design, not just architecture, and examine the influences that made Art Deco the colourful style that is still influential today. 

Lecture 3
We end with a round-up of some of the many surviving Art Deco buildings around the world.

Members are invited to bring any Art Nouveau or Art Deco items which will be placed on a table for discussion.

This Study day tells the multifaceted Ukrainian story through the shared culture which binds its diverse people together, including the sacred art and architecture of Kyiv inherited from Byzantium, the rich legacy of the Cossacks, and a treasury of poetry, painting and song.

We will also look at the key role played by folk culture in the years before Ukraine's emergence as an independent nation, whether "red icons" on glass or the country's remarkable embroidery tradition, which had a surprising influence on avant-garde art.
